A Coxsackie Outing

Iivi brings you stories of women who interest and inspire.
Minna tells us:
“We moved from NYC to upstate New York a few years back. What was supposed to be a weekend getaway turned out to become a watershed decision. I swapped a life-long career path to living a life.
Friends predicted we would get bored and run back as soon as the novelty wore off. How wrong they were. Often, visiting the little towns in the Hudson Valley and Northern Catskills I get the feeling that I used to have in Brooklyn a decade ago: the sense of community, creativity, enthusiasm, excitement and freshness of things and ideas.
These days, they say our region is trending. So let me let you in on a secret. Sorry Catskill,,Hudson, Kingston, Rhinebeck… Coxsackie is my favorite. Walking around, you can see how much people love to live there, how well they take care of their homes and gardens.
Reed Street, the center of town, is about to happen. There is an old Opera House that is under renovation, there will be an event space, a hotel and many new stores. But the town is already worth a visit. I shop for local fare and nano brewery beer at the Farmers’ Market from May to late October. I do yoga by the river with the local Y. I get my Applejack from the Reed Street Bottle Shop.
The best of Coxsackie is Mansion + Reed General Store. It offers provisions from the Hudson Valley from bread to beard oil, as well as coffee and lunch. Its website has a wonderful guide to the area. See you there.”
